ok finals are here now. Quick breakdown of how everything is shaping up and the schedule for each.

Roman Women: already took it. Needed to get an 86 to get an A. Could get up to a 68 before it moved down to a B. No real ideas on how it went. Pretty much I just wrote for an hour straight and that’s really all I can do.

Nutri Sci: Thursday morning at 10. Again, I’m doing very well. Can get another 86 to get an A. Unfortunately, I hate science. So studying will be almost exclusively memorization of previous exams. Honestly, this class is so poorly taught that this is literally all you need to do to get an A. If you take Nutri Sci with Pete Anderson, don’t buy the book; sign up for StudyBlue.com instead.

Poli Sci: Probably the hardest midterm I have, which is saying something (and in this, I mean most of my classes are quite easy). I probably will begin studying for it beginning tomorrow. Luckily it’s all information that I digest pretty easily (why countries go to war, peace, trade, international groups) so I’m not incredibly worried about it either.

Medieval Warfare: worth HALF of my grade. This is quite worrisome, but currently I’m getting a 96%. And, the professor gave us all the terms to memorize. 5 terms from 30 to be given plus two essays.

LIS 201: Worth only 10% of my grade and occurs three days after my medieval warfare term.

For those of you who don’t know what BroBible.com is, I applaud you. To put it simply, BroBible is a site dedicated to everything dudes: babes, booze, people getting injured in horrifying but hilarious ways, etc. Anyways, thanks in large part to the epic snow day (which resulted in every liquor store having lines that made it look like beer would never be sold again), Wisconsin and my several of my friends made the website! The first was from the Great Wall of Gilman. To explain, the Great Wall was an obstacle course of snowmen, meant to force traffic to weave in and out in order to pass, thus slowly their travel and making them easy targets for snowballs. In all honesty, that sounds pretty funny.

Then, one of the largest snowballs in the history of the world (I am definitely not exaggerating) was made and rolled into the middle of University Avenue. Also awesome.

All in all, the night was pretty epic. I personally was a part of the Langdon Street snowball fight which pitted the fraternities of ZBT and SigmaChi against SigEp A-E-Pi and PIKE. Again, I must iterate how epic last night was. It may have been due in large part to not have to going to class the next day, or it may have been due to the amount of alcohol I had, but all in all the only word I can use to describe it is epic.

Semester over. Class over. What have I learned this year?

- Disappointments happen. And honestly, you often times have no control over them. It often times relies on how you handle the situation that determines whether you remain successful or left feeling sorry for yourself.

- I have the ability to juggle many things. Oh the sweet, sweet benefits of having a crazy easy schedule

- I will never try and work a manual labor job or a mental job dealing with objective data. I have firmly cemented my place in the world as a subjective thinker. Think “Thank You for Smoking” as a 19-year old. My place in the world will be to pose arguments that can’t be deemed as wrong.

- I actually enjoyed myself in this class.

- My future at Madison is uncertain. I declared majors but I will probably do nothing in the fields of history or political science.

To all two of you who actually read this blog, thank you for the time. I really don’t know how much I enjoyed it; often times it was just a hassle to make sure I was doing it once a week. I’m sure years from now I’ll get curious, look up my old blog from LIS 201, be thoroughly embarrassed at my writing and style, and then login to delete the account, never to be seen again. But, until then, enjoy! I’ll see me in three years.

Near the end

And with this the blogs are nearing an end. Finals are now around the corner, and in a a week someone will have to pick apart these writings and get a general impression of me. So to whoever is reading this, have fun. I have no idea what I wrote back in September, but at least this blog was centered around sports or the news (both I could talk about, but I’m sure they would almost be too unique of topics to cover in one’s blog.) Other than that, I’ll just briefly detail what happened this past week.

Working at the ski slopes this winter break which is nice, because I’m getting pretty broke.

I was elected as VP-Recruitment. I have very little excitement but do plan on busting my ass, as I promised myself I would do for this house for a year.

Thanksgiving was baller.

And coaching officially begins tonight. Well, practices have been going on for a while but actual matches begin tonight. We play East tonight.

Well to start off, I didn’t win the election. I believe the final tally had me with 49% of the vote. Had no idea that it would come down to politics, but alas, it did. I also believe it had a lot to do with the fact that I speak my mind, and actually do so openly. (I hate the kind of people who say that they ‘speak their mind’ but are passive-aggressive / do it when they aren’t around the ones they are talking about. I’m sorry, that’s not speaking your mind – that’s called being a sally). Anyways, I decided to do recruitment.

Also went to Northwestern this weekend. They tried to compete with Madison, but that’s ridiculous. There are more cute girls in my lecture than in the entire NW campus. The guys who ‘party’ (I use the term lightly – they go out on Saturdays/Mondays.) are some of the most stereotypical ‘bros’ I think I’ve met. As a bonus of the trip, I almost got punched. It was quite the weekend, but it’s also one I don’t really want to describe on this blog. If anyone who reads this is actually that curious, message me. It’s a story that will go into my log of college experiences.

Election

Everyone -

If all one person who reads this didn’t know, I am in a fraternity. I don’t know if I ever mentioned that before but yes, I’m a frat-boy. I hate that word, because I’m not (my parents make little, I’m from a tiny town, I hate wearing polos, etc.). Anyways, many members feel like I have a presence that emanates leadership and openness. I have no idea how to measure something as intangible as that, but if they tell me I am, I guess I’ll go with it. That being said, I have been nominated to be the chapter president, less than a year after joining. I wasn’t even around the last time elections were held. I have no idea how it works, but I know I would do solid work as president of the chapter. Saying that kind of blows my mind, but I guess its an opportunity that I can’t pass up. The theme of my term would be communication, transparency, and progress. I hope I can fulfill those promises.

Winding down

Thankfully, this semester is beginning to round off. It has been a whirlwind semester, and that’s part of the reason I want it to be over. I have been glad to have been a part of all I was involved in, but a break is going to be unbelievable, even just the five days over Thanksgiving. To me, it just seems as though college has gotten so competitive that focusing on extra-curricular activities is a must. A solid GPA is not enough; leadership opportunity are always present on this campus and people must capitalize on them. And while I have no intentions have slowing down on any of these (in fact, I will be increasing my involvement – I just made the decision to run for President of my frat), my workload will lesson. The schedule for next semester is set: 14 credits, no science class, no class on Friday, and nothing past 3:15. Hopefully, this will make everything else much, much easier.

Well to begin with I can’t see a damn thing hat I am typing. The text is white for some reason. I guess I’m just going to assume that everything that I type is correct. Therefore, this post will be brief. Just a quick story about the irony that is my life. My paper for LIS 201 is on how the internet has changed a significant part of our culture. I chose online pornography which, if you think about, has been completely reshaped by the internet. Anyways, so I bust my ass writing this 1000 word paper. And what happens? My stupid computer gets a virus that day that the paper is due, completely destroying my OS and thus my paper (along with all the rest of my documents). Honestly, that’s about as ironic as it can get – getting a computer virus after writing a paper about internet pornography. It’s not like I was doing “in-depth research” even. I was looking up scholarly articles about the entire phenomenon.

Next time, I’m getting a Mac.

We had powder puff football this weekend as a part of Tour de Touchdown. It honestly was one of the best sober times I’ve had here. Just a lot of effort and planning that actually panned out. However, changes need to be made. First off, coaches need to realize that we are cut for time. This means preventing slacking ass when in-between games and making sure that they are not wasting time in general. It was incredibly frustrating for me to call it at 3 (we had until 5) that there would not be enough time. That all being said, there should just be a day-of director, possibly an older member, who ensures that people don’t waste time and that everything is being ran as efficiently as possible. It sucks to run out of time two years running.

I will post briefly – thankfully LIS is on kind of a down week and I have the ability to shift focus. Midterm Tuesday worth 50% of my grade = not much time for other things.

And yet, I still drank this weekend. Not to excess or anything but I just seemingly have this college mindset of it being a weekend night and thus I go out. I still was able to get most of my studying done (the study guide I wrote up is over 5000 words long) but Sam and weekends equals going out for a couple of beers.

I’ll post later this week about other things (meeting my girlfriend’s family who were mostly wasted is a particularly interesting story) but for now I just can’t seem to shift my focus off Medieval Technology. You have no idea how much I know about catapults.
